the first step...

...is a confession: I am not an individual.
Individual. Individualis. Individuus. In—not, dividuus—divisible.

Indivisible? Not able to be divided? This suggests a completeness, a whole. We are not wholes. We are fractured where we are not shattered, and bruised where we are not broken. We hold malformed and inherently contradictory notions of life, the universe, and everything. We control very little in life and least of all our own minds. How then can any of us be truly individual—indivisible, complete, whole?

I am not an individual but a product. I am a sentient amalgamation of biological and cultural artifacts and conditions of possibility.

Well, I suggest YOU are not any of those things. YOU can't be. Your identity probably is though.
